O software Idea Puzzle é uma ferramenta de tomada de decisão que ajuda os doutorandos a melhorar a coerência de uma proposta de investigação, artigo ou tese à luz da Filosofia da Ciência (Morais & Brailsford, 2022). Também ajuda a rever as forças e as fraquezas de um projeto de investigação em qualquer área do conhecimento (Parente & Ferro, 2016). Até hoje, ajudou a desenhar mais de 8000 projetos de investigação em todo o mundo.
O software Idea Puzzle coloca 21 questões, ajuda a respondê-las e permite a auto-avaliação de cada resposta em termos de progresso da tomada de decisão. A função ajuda do software Idea Puzzle inclui instruções, dicas, definições, introduções, bibliografia e exemplos de desenhos de investigação que venceram o Prémio Idea Puzzle. O resultado do software Idea Puzzle é um desenho de investigação com 21 respostas, uma pontuação total e um puzzle colorido de progresso que pode ser partilhado em PDF ou em Word.
Em 2023, o software Idea Puzzle foi finalista da SAGE £15k Concept Grant, num total de 89 ferramentas de software de investigação. O júri considerou o modelo teórico de 21 decisões único e elogiou a forma como ajuda os doutorandos a desenhar a sua investigação:
